Bulldogs Top L.A.’s Hearts

Want more reasons to love American Bulldogs? Go ask the people of Los Angeles! Based from the recent announcement from the American Kennel Club, I think they know the answer very well. Here’s a news article I found online:

The American Kennel Club has released their list of the Most Popular Breeds of 2010, and in Los Angeles, the bulldog remains our top dog. For the second year in a row, the bulldog ranks #1 in Los Angeles; the AKC use registration data for zip codes to come up with their rankings.

Here are the top 5 Most Popular Breeds in Los Angeles in 2010:

1. Bulldog
2. German Shepherd Dog
3. Labrador Retriever
4. Yorkshire Terrier
5. Golden Retriever

When it comes to Los Angeles and dogs, it seems the Labrador Retriever is “slowly falling out of favor,” the AKC notes. And despite the stereotype of our starlet population clinging to pampered poodles and itty-bitty purse-sized pooches, most Angelenos seem to prefer larger dogs.

How much do we love bulldogs in Los Angeles? Well, we have a beauty pageant just for them. Bulldogs showed up on the AKC list of popular breeds in L.A. for 2007 for the first time then in 75 years, and have proven a steady favorite since.
